               INT. LEXY'S APARTMENT - EVENING

LEXY COLLINS polishes the furniture wearing a formal gown and
               rubber gloves.

TREENI PHILLIPS eyes Lexy over the book she's trying to read.
               Finally snaps it closed.

                                   TREENI
Okay. I've had it. What is wrong
                         with you?

                                   LEXY
                         Wha...Who? Me?

Treeni slants her an irritated look.

                                   TREENI
                         I thought I could handle it. I
thought this was just another of
your phases. But it's been a week.
                         What's with all these gowns?

                                   LEXY
                         Can you keep a secret?

                                   TREENI
Your mother is still that your
brother mowed down her rose bush
                         with the car, isn't she?

Lexy nods. Takes a breath and sits next to Treeni.

                                   LEXY
Well...Remember how last week I was
                         over at Drey's place?

                                   TREENI
                         And?

                                   LEXY
He was on the phone and asked me to
grab his wallet off the dresser.

                                   TREENI
                             (groans)
Don't tell me you went through it.
                         After two years--

                                   LEXY
Of course not. What had happened
                         was...Sparks had followed me and
thought I wanted to play and I
tripped and knocked some papers off
                         the dresser.

                                   TREENI
Uh huh. What did you discover when
                         you tripped over the dog?

Lexy can't contain her broad smile.

                                   LEXY
                         I'm getting married!!

She squeals in excitement. Treeni just looks at her.

                                   LEXY
What? Aren't you happy for me?

                                   TREENI
How do you get from tripping over a
                         dog to getting married?

Lexy heaves a long suffering sigh.

                                   LEXY
The papers I knocked over? I
couldn't help reading them when I
put them back. I had to make sure
                         everything was in order.

                                   TREENI
                         Of course you did.

                                   LEXY
And one was a receipt from Robbins
                         Brothers. You know. "The World's
                         Biggest Engagement Ring Store."

                                   TREENI
                         Don't you think you're hanging a
lot on a receipt that may or may
                         not be Drey's?

                                   LEXY
                         I'm not a fool.

                                   TREENI
                         Tell me you didn't.

                                   LEXY
I only stopped for a minute. The
                         ring is gorgeous!

                                   TREENI
                         You saw it?

                                   LEXY
Not the exact one, but I know it's
a one and a half princess cut,
three stone diamond on a platinum
                         band.

Treeni rubs an amused hand over her face to hide her smile.

                                   TREENI
Okay, so he's going to propose. How
does that translate to your sudden
                         affinity for formal wear?

Lexy eyes Treeni like she's sprouted a second head.

                                   LEXY
I am on the brink of a major life
change here. I just want everything
                         to be perfect.

                                   TREENI
And your definition of perfect is
traipsing around for a week in a
                         ball gown?

                                   LEXY
                         Well...no. I hadn't thought that
part through. But I just want the
                         proposal to be perfectly romantic.
Like a fairy tale. I mean, I'm sure
                         he's ordered a gazillion flowers.
                         Roses. Red. And white lilies.

Lexy hops up from the couch, lost in her fantasy world.

                                   LEXY
He'll take me for a walk in a
moonlit garden. I'll be caught up
in the moment. Not suspecting a
                         thing.

She sweeps along her imaginary moonlit path.

                                   LEXY
Surprise will cross my face when he
stops me and gets down on bended
                         knee.

                                   TREENI
You haven't thought about this very
                         much at all, have you?

                                   LEXY
Shhh. This is the good part. A
single tear will roll down my
                         cheek. He'll say, "Lexy, my
darling. My heart. My every breath.
I can't go on living another minute
until you agree to be my wife."

                                   TREENI
Can't the man even come up with his
                         own proposal?

                                   LEXY
                         No. It's too important.
                         Anyway...I'll take a shaky
                         breath...'cause I'm still fighting
                         tears and shock, you know...and
                         nod.

                                   TREENI
                         Nothing like a little planned
shock. And all this explains the
                         dress how...?

                                   LEXY
                         Weren't you listening? You expect
me to wear a ratty pair of jeans on
                         my most romantic, most significant
                         life-altering day ever? Besides,
Paul said in 2 Corinthians to be
                         prepared. That's what I'm doing.

                                   TREENI
You have a scripture to back this
madness up? Somehow I don't think
he had sequins and glitter in mind
                         when he wrote that.

                                   LEXY
                         Whatever. I'm going to...

She cocks her head to listen. Pulls Treeni off the couch.
               Pushes her towards the back.

                                   LEXY
He's here! Hang out in your room.
You're not in my fantasy. I love
                         you though.

               EXT. LEXY'S APARTMENT

Looking really nervous, DREY JOHNSON heads for the door. SAM
               TERRENCE drags along behind him.

                                   SAM
Okay. I'm drawing the line here.
I'm not proposing for you. I've
seen you run into burning buildings
                         with less hesitation.

                                   DREY
Is it too much to ask for a little
                         moral support?

                                   SAM
Moral support ran a little thin
                         three days ago.

Sam turns to leave. Drey grabs his sleeve.

                                   DREY
Wait! What if she's not ready? What
                         if she says no?

                                   SAM
Lexy? Say no? That girl's probably
already got your first five years
                         mapped out.

               Drey smiles. Relaxes a bit.

                                   DREY
                         Yeah. You're right. It's just...I
love her so much. She's my rib.

               Sam rolls his eyes.

                                   SAM
                         Yeah, so go propose already.

Drey straightens his spine. Knocks on the door.

Lexy answers after an agonizing moment.

Drey stares at her. Spellbound by her beauty. Without further
thought, he pulls the ring out of his pocket and dangles it
               on his pinky.

                                   DREY
                         Marry me.

Stunned horror settles on Lexy's face.

                                   LEXY
                         No.

She slams the door in his face.

               Drey stares at it, confused.

               INT. LEXY'S APARTMENT

Lexy collapses on the couch and cries her eyes out. Treeni
peeks in at her. She kneels by the couch and strokes Lexy's
               hair.

                                   TREENI
Oh, sweety. What happened? Did he
                         break up with you?

                                   LEXY
I broke up with him. He just said
                         mahhhhrry meeeee!

                                   TREENI
                         What?

Lexy sits up. Punches the pillow.

                                   LEXY
He said marry me. Just like that.
                         All casual like he proposes
                         everyday.

She collapses in a fit of tears.

Treeni rocks back on her heels. Gives Lexy a head slap.

                                   TREENI
Are you kidding me? You said no
because you didn't like how he
                         asked?

                                   LEXY
                         Weren't you listening to me?

                                   TREENI
                         That's all I've been doing.
                         "Treeni, he's perfect. Treeni he
treats me like a queen. Treeni,
                         he's this. He's that." Now it's
                         your turn to listen.

                                   LEXY
                         You just don't understand...

                                   TREENI
                         You're darned skippy I don't. Good
men ain't a dime a dozen. God men
are even more rare. And you've got
one who wants to spend the rest of
                         his life with you.

                                   LEXY
                         But the flowers. The moonlit
                         garden...

                                   TREENI
Did you say no in your fantasy?

                                   LEXY
                         No...

                                   TREENI
                         Then what's the difference?

                                   LEXY
I just wanted things to be perfect.
                         Don't I deserve a memorable
                         proposal?

                                   TREENI
Just like Naaman when he went to
Elisha to cure his leprosy. He
almost missed out on his blessing
                         because he didn't think Elisha's
cure was ceremonial enough for a
man of his stature. Are you really
                         going to sacrifice your husband
because the proposal wasn't up to
                         your standards?

               Lexy sniffs. Wipes her eyes.

                                   LEXY
I do love him. And he looked so
adorable...Oh my God! What did I
                         do?

She rushes to the door. Yanks it open and stops short.

Drey sits on the steps where Sam tries to cheer him up. The
men look at her. Jump to their feet.

                                   DREY
Lexy. I'm sorry. Just tell me
                         what's wrong. I'll fix it.

Lexy smiles and puts a finger to his lips to shush him. She
               gets down on one knee.

                                   LEXY
Andre Johnson. Will you marry me?

Treeni comes to the door behind Lexy. Exchanges a surprised
               look with Sam.

Drey kneels with her. Slides the ring on her finger. Clutches
               her hand to his heart.

                                   DREY
                         I would be honored.
                                         THE END
